Le jeune cycliste de Longueuil en pleine forme en ce début de saison

(France – Le 10 février 2011) Avec de bons coups de pédales, un grand travail d'équipe et une excellente stratégie de sprint, le jeune cycliste canadien Guillaume Boivin de Longueuil, au Québec annonce qu'il est de retour en pleine forme après la réhabilitation d'une blessure au genou qui l'a affecté pour la plupart de la saison 2011. Lors de la deuxième étape du Tour méditerranéen 2012 disputé aujourd’hui, Boivin a sprinté vers la deuxième place, montant sur le podium.
Devant un majestueux paysage de la Côte-de-Baux en Provence, la course a été marquée par plusieurs accidents mineurs alors les vents forts ont causé des tensions dans le peloton. Les températures froides inhabituelles dans la région du sud de la France ont présenté au coureur des conditions de course difficiles.
« Mes jambes vont vraiment bien ici. Je suis content de mon état de santé et de ma forme physique, et je ne m'attendais pas être à cette position après deux étapes. Aujourd'hui, dans les derniers kilomètres, les gars de Garmin-Barracuda ont parfaitement planifié leur fin de course. Ils ont été impressionnants et méritaient la victoire. Je veux vraiment prendre cette occasion pour remercier mon coéquipier Pat McCarty. Il fait un travail incroyable pour me garder en position dans les derniers 30 kilomètres. Il est un coureur affuté et il compte pour beaucoup dans la course. Il comprend la façon dont le peloton s’organise et sait exactement où se positionner, » a déclaré Guillaume Boivin après la course.
Avec ce podium, Boivin se retrouve au quatrième rang du classement général à mi-chemin de l'événement. Au classement des meilleurs jeunes, Boivin conserve toujours sa deuxième place derrière Michael Kreder de l'équipe Garmin-Barracuda, le vainqueur de la deuxième étape d'aujourd'hui.
Boivin a ajouté : « Dans l'ensemble, en tant qu’équipe, nous sommes de mieux en mieux, et tous les gars sont motivés pour les courses à venir. Demain devrait être une autre belle opportunité pour un sprint et nous allons nous peaufiner notre approche pour améliorer une victoire. »
Boivin, un coureur U23, a remporté la médaille de bronze dans la course sur route aux Championnats du monde Route 2010 de l’Union cycliste internationale en Australie.
Le Tour méditerranéen est une course par étapes de quatre jours d'une distance totale de 525 kilomètres de course. L'événement se poursuit jusqu'à dimanche.

ANOTHER SPRINT FINISH AS GUILLAUME BOIVIN STEPS ON PODIUM
Boivin is back in full form after nursing a knee injury in 2011

(France- February 10, 2012) —With strong pedaling, great teamwork and a fast sprint, young Canadian rider Guillaume Boivin of Longueuil, QC is telling everyone that he’s back in full form after nursing a knee injury that affected him for most the 2011 season. In today’s second stage at the 2012 Tour Méditerranéen, Boivin sprinted to the second place with only two more races to go.
In front of a majestic scenic backdrop in Cote-de-Baux en Provence, the race was highlighted by several non-serious crash as the strong winds which caused tense racing. The unseasonable cold temperatures in the southern region of France made for challenging race conditions.
“My legs feel really good here. I'm happy with my condition and I didn't expect to be going quite this good right now. Today in the final kilometers, the Garmin-Barracuda guys played the finish very well. They were impressive and deserved the win. I really want have to thank my team-mate Pat McCarty. He did an amazing job keeping my in position in the final 30km. He's such a savvy rider and it counts for so much in racing. He understands how the bunch flows and knows exactly where to put me without us needing to talk a lot,” said Guillaume Boivin after the race.
With the podium result, Boivin moves up to the fourth place in the General Classification midway through the event. In the Young Rider (U23) classification, Boivin still sits in second place behind Michael Kreder of Team Garmin-Barracuda, the winner of today’s second stage.
Boivin added: “Overall as a team, we are getting better day by day here and all the guys are pumped for the racing to come. Tomorrow should be another good chance for a sprint and we'll focus on tweaking our approach so we improve ... by just one more place, I hope.”
Boivin, a still a U23 rider, won the bronze medal in the road race at the 2010 UCI World Championships in Australia.
The Tour Méditerranéen is a four-day stage race totaling 525 km. The event continues through Sunday.
