WHITTEN CINQUIÈME DE LA POURSUITE INDIVIDUELLE AUX MONDIAUX PISTE

Whitten rate de très peu les courses des médailles

(Melbourne, AUS – Le 8 avril) Tara Whitten, d'Edmonton, en Alberta a terminé au cinquième rang de l’épreuve de la poursuite individuelle lors des Championnats du monde Piste 2012 à Melbourne, en Australie.

Whitten a affiché un temps de 3:30.407 dans la course de trois kilomètres, le cinquième meilleur temps de la journée.
Les quatre meilleurs temps se qualifiaient pour les courses des médailles.

Allison Shanks de la Nouvelle-Zélande a remporté le titre mondial, en prenant facilement la médaille d'or par un peu moins de deux secondes sur Wendy Houvenaghel de la Grande-Bretagne dans la course décisive. L’Australienne Ashlee Ankudinoff a quant à elle défait sa coéquipière Amy Cure lors du duel de la médaille de bronze.

Les Championnats du monde Piste 2012, maintenant terminés, se voulaient être le dernier événement de qualification pour les Jeux olympiques de 2012 en cyclisme sur piste, ainsi que le dernier événement majeur de cyclisme sur piste avant les Jeux olympiques.

TARA WHITTEN FIFTH IN INDIVIDUAL PURSUIT AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Whitten just misses qualifications in single-event individual pursuit at Track Worlds

(Melbourne, AUS – April 8, 2012) Tara Whitten of Edmonton, Alberta took the fifht place of the women’s individual pursuit at the 2012 UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

Whitten posted a time of 3:30.407 in the 3-kilometre race, the fifth best time of the day.

The top-4 times advance to the medal races.

New Zealand’s Allison Shanks went on to win the World title, easily taking the gold by just under two seconds over Great Britain’s Wendy Houvenaghel in the decisive race. Australia’s Ashlee Ankudinoff defeated her teammate Amy Cure for the bronze medal.

The 2012 UCI World Championships, now over, were the last qualifying events for the 2012 Olympic Games in track cycling, as well as the last maor track cycling event prior to the Olympic Games.

April 08, 2012 (Melbourne, Australia) – Canada’s Tara Whitten placed fifth in the women’s Individual Pursuit on the final day of competition at the 2012 UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne, Australia. New Zealand’s Alison Shanks  won the gold over Wendy Houvenaghel (Great Britain).

Australia’s Anna Meares set a new world record on her way to her fourth title in the women’s 500m Time Trial. Miriam Welte (GER) won the silver and Great Britain’s Jessica Varnish took home the bronze. It was Meares tenth world title and second gold at these Worlds as  she defended her Keirin crown – more results to follow.
